Our garages fill a range of functions. Some of us use ours only for storage. Others turn their garages into workshops for working on cars, woodworking projects, and more.

Whatever you use your garage for, if your concrete floor starts to crumble, you might wonder what you can do.

Keep reading to learn three amazing fixed for your garage’s damaged floor.

1. Filling the Cracks

Small cracks in your concrete floor aren’t a big deal. As the concrete settles over time, these cracks are a natural occurrence.

However, if the cracks get bigger, concrete repair will become necessary.

To do so, you’ll need to start by removing any debris, like dirt or leaves, from the crack. You may want to widen the crack a little with a chisel in order to get the debris out and give your filling a space to fill.

Use a wet vac to suck out any water and leftover dirt.

Mix concrete then use a trowel to fill the crack. Smooth the surface, blending the new concrete with the surrounding area. You can use a dry paintbrush to match the texture of the surface as well.

2. Patch a Hole

If that crack in your garage floor has turned into a full-blown hole, ignoring it is definitely not an option.

Instead, it’s time for a patch.

Patching a concrete floor takes a specific set of steps, not to mention the right tools and supplies.

Start by leveling the hole using a hammer can chisel. You’ll want the bottom of the whole to be as flat as possible and the side undercut so that your patch will hold.

Next, brush a concrete bonding liquid throughout the hole. While the liquid is still sticky, mix concrete and water and scoop it into the hole.

Press the concrete into every corner of the hole. Mound it slightly on the top. Finally, use a straight-edge board to smooth the concrete and create a level surface.

3. Get It Coated

If your garage floor is less than perfect but still structurally sound, you might have another option besides simply repairing it.

You can get your garage floor coated, instead.

Garage coatings are a great option for a number of reasons. Besides hiding cosmetic damage or other small flaws, they also make your garage floor more usable and durable.

Your floor will have a smooth, comfortable surface that you won’t mind walking on or even laying on while working on your car. It locks out moisture, protecting the concrete underneath from water damage.

Plus, you can customize your coating. Choose your favorite color, or maybe a dark coating to hide the paint, oil, or anything else you know you’re likely to spill in the future.
